About Me

After starting my career doing engineering in the aerospace industry, including time at TRW and Rockwell, I moved to Denver and transitioned over to the enterprise software world.  Through the next 15 years at JD Edwards, I learned a lot about software development practices, technology reuse, development operations, and the ERP application space.

After JDE, I spent the majority of the next three years building a small startup in the wireless space, targeted at nearfield location based technologies and most specifically RFID.  We built a small company called “Focus Now Solutions” which provided consulting and educational services on RFID as well as a mobile asset management platform.  We were also a VAR for a few targeted solutions in the space.  This was a great experience, we helped several customers move forward, and I learned a lot about the technology.  Unfortunately, “learning” doesn’t pay the bills and the RFID space has moved a lot slower than I needed, so we closed up the shop and moved on.

We moved to San Diego to take a new role with Intuit in the TurboTax (Consumer Tax) group.  My charter was to continue buildout of our reuse program for next generation tax components and to own the operations of our Electronic Filing capabilities.  Wow – what a great experience that was.  Much to learn and a lot to share about how leading consumer faced companies work.

After Intuit I have spent time consulting at San Diego based companies in wireless (most specifically at Mitek Systems) and as the operations leader for a SaaS based CRM company (MaintenanceNet).  I have recently accepted a new full time responsibility as VP-Client Services and Customer Support at Mitek Systems.  Our mission is essentially to make let the camera on a smart phone be an important alternative to data entry, making it faster and easier to collect data from documents and enter important data for processing, enrollment, etc.  The flagship solution here is mobile remote deposit – allowing you to deposit a check directly from your smart phone.  How cool!

My Manifesto – in draft form:

  • In leadership I approach work with a participative style, bringing stakeholders along for understanding, agreement and shared commitment.
  • I am an advocate for ‘systems thinking’ – requiring clarity in purpose, process, and measures.
  • I constantly search for better understanding and am a believer in agile approaches.
  • I care about people and having fun along the way – but I expect a lot out of my team.
